During the first day of GROEN-Direkt, Buddleja davidii ‘Botex 006’ (BUTTERFLY CANDY LITTLE RUBY) was awarded a Gold KVBC Medal. This plant has also been proclaimed Best Novelty of the SVB-KVBC Novelty Trial 2021.

The plant was submitted by Van Son & Koot bv from Kaatsheuvel. From the jury report:

‘The plants are flowering beautifully with well-filled flowers and are neatly presented. Buddleja davidii ‘Botex 006′ (BUTTERFLY CANDY LITTLE RUBY). The distinctive deep red flowers are exceptional for Buddleja. A general remark of the jury is that it is not clear if the plants are sterile.’

Silver and bronze
Only the best novelty was awarded gold by the jury. Buddleja davidii ‘Botex 005’ (BUTTERFLY CANDY LITTLE PINK), also submitted by Van Son & Koot bv, was awarded a Silver Medal. The jury also awarded 17 Bronze Medals.

Thirty novelties had entered for this novelty trial. Of these, 29 entries were accepted for the trial. In the end, 27 plants were judged. The judging of the novelties took place the day before GROEN-Direkt and was done by an expert trial committee of the KVBC. The presentation of the Best Novelty was in the hands of Helma van der Louw, chairman of the KVBC.

The trialled plants and, of course, the Best Novelty can be seen during the trade show GROEN-Direkt on 25 and 26 August in Hazerswoude-Dorp. By presenting the plants here, they will receive plenty of attention from an international buyers’ audience.
