On 22 September 2022, the KVBC trial committee awarded a KVBC Award Bronze to Acer campestre ‘Ruijgrok’ (STREET PILLAR) after field inspection.
‘Ruijgrok’ (STREET PILLAR) forms a fairly compact, dense crown. After 15 years, the tree reaches a height of 5 m and a width of 2 m without pruning. From the judges’ report: ‘The beautiful dark green leaves are relatively large and quite thick. This Acer grows strongly at a young age, but then seems to slow down quickly, requiring less pruning. In autumn, the older leaves first turn yellow, while the leaves on young shoots are then still green, making a nice contrast. The crown is ovoid rather than columnar.’
A detailed description of Acer campestre ‘Ruijgrok’ (STREET PILLAR) will be published in Dendroflora No 58, which will appear in early 2023.
